Peter,
While your mileage may vary, my two upgrades (1.1 to 1.2 and 1.2 to
1.3) have all be as painless as possible. When I run the install
(server first), it finds my existing installation and asks if I want
to upgrade, when I say yes, it has preserved all my customizations.
My caveats: I only have Linux boxes that I'm running this on.
All my customizations have been limited to ossec.conf on clients and
servers and local_rules.xml on the server.
